In 2025, the SHRI launched its work around its priority research areas. With a ten-year strategy and a nearly complete team, it organized three events and issued its first publication.

The SHRI issued position statements on political and legal issues in Switzerland through the lens of human rights: at the European level, particularly in the wake of the KlimaSeniorinnen case; as well as at the federal and cantonal levels. The SHRI also launched its online information portal on human rights in Switzerland.

Internally, the SHRI welcomed 4 new staff members and 52 new members. It also began the process that should lead to its international accreditation.

“A step into adulthood”

Director Stefan Schlegel reflects: “For the SHRI, 2025 has been a year of stepping into adulthood. As in real life, growing up is certainly exciting and wonderful, but not always easy: it’s the age of firsts, and things don’t always go smoothly; Furthermore, it often happens that we intervene where we were not expected to. (…). But when we take stock, we’re amazed by everything we’ve learned and the maturity we’ve gained.”
